Sport Unlimited

Sport Unlimited is a Sport England initiative which is an integral part of the Government’s Physical Education and Sport Strategy for Young People, often referred to as the 5 Hour Offer.

The programme provides term time opportunities for young people who are semi sporty (those currently participating in 2-3 hours of sport a week) in a wide range of sports.

LIVING SPORT is working closely with a number of different partners, including Sport Centres, Local Authorities, School Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies, Community Clubs and Youth Groups. We are always looking for providers who are willing to organize introductory courses for the target participants.

Each Sport Unlimited activity must run for eight weeks during term time with an hour session each week. Sessions must be delivered in a fun and safe environment and encourage participants to continue taking part in sport once the eight week programme has finished.

Funding is available for coaching, venue and transport costs. The deadline to submit an application for autumn term delivery is Friday 28th May 2010.

Criteria include:

  • Activities must be targeted at Semi Sporty Young People aged 5 to 19.
  • Activities must be new with all sessions at least one hour in length over an eight week period.
  • The average grant size is around £20/head i.e. if you retain 20 people to your session you could gain approx £400 funding. However, if your project is more expensive please contact us to discuss.
  • All activity must be outside curriculum hours.
  • All activity must show how it will be sustainable once funding has finished.

The Sport Unlimited Steering Group is keen to encourage applications that offer increased activity to athletes with a disability.Partnership working is strongly recommended (i.e. Club and School, Youth Group and National Governing Body etc)

If you are interested in applying for a grant, or just need more information, please contact Ross Hayward.
