About LIVING SPORT

We want more people to take part in sport and physical activity and LIVING SPORT’s vision is “active and healthy communities where everyone can play, achieve and enjoy”. Our aim is to work with a wide range of individuals and organisations involved in sport, bringing them together to form one powerful single voice for sport in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The vision will be delivered by engaging with key local strategic priorities and partners and promote the importance and value of sport and highlighting the benefits it can bring to local communities. Through supporting sports clubs, organisations and the sporting workforce, we will help improve the quality and quantity of sport delivered in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

LIVING SPORT partners include District, City and County Councils, School Sports Partnerships, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Children and Young Peoples Services to deliver positive activities for young people and the Voluntary and Community Sector. We are escalating our engagement with health services to increase physical activity to tackle obesity and with education and training partners to develop people’s skills and employability.

LIVING SPORT is responsible for delivering a number of sports initiatives including:

  • Sport Unlimited – to provide opportunities to attract more young people into regular sport.
  • East Links: Leading the Field – to offer funding to those working in sport, often on a voluntary basis, to attain coaching, officiating and other qualifications.
  • Step into Sport – supporting young people to take on leadership and volunteering roles within sport.
  • Dancing for Fun and Better Health – targeted at encouraging over-50’s to become more active.
  • Active Workplaces – focused in Fenland and Peterborough to deliver sports and physical activity in and around the workplace.

Part of our responsibility is to play a leading role in GOLD - the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Coordinating Group for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. GOLD will:

  • Ensure there is a clear and supportive route in place for those with the potential to participate at higher levels, whether they are players, coaches or officials.
  • And to exploit the excitement and enthusiasm that is presented to leave a lasting legacy of improvement and increased participation in sport in our communities
