Release date: 23/09/2011

Still time to nominate the counties sporting stars

There are just two weeks left to nominate a sporting star or unsung hero for the LIVING SPORT Sports Awards to be held at Burgess Hall, St Ives, on Thursday 10 November. Nominations are flowing in but we still need you help! Do you know someone in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough that has excelled in their sport this year and has been an outstanding role model to their club or team mates? Is there someone in your local sports club that you simply could not do without? If so LIVING SPORT want to hear your stories and honour their achievements in the annual county sports awards.

There are 10 categories to nominate in, from Anglia Ruskin University Sport Performers and Disabled Sports Performer Awards to recognising our unsung volunteers with the Barracudas Activity Day Camps Young Community Volunteer of the Year, COACHING:HQ Coach of the year and Services to sport awards. There are also awards for Community Club, School and Team of the year. The Matthew Warn Power of Sport award will be awarded to a project that can demonstrate that sport can make a real difference to communities. We know that sport can transform lives and there are great examples out there, this is your chance to reward them.

Nominations will be accepted from anybody, for individuals, clubs, teams and schools with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough connections. Nomination forms can be downloaded below. You have until Friday 7 October to submit nominations.

Three shortlisted nominees in each category will receive 2 free tickets to the Awards Ceremony that will be held at the Burgess Hall, St Ives, on Thursday 10 November. Tickets will also be available to buy and will be on sale soon.

All winners will be forwarded to the BBC East Region Sports Awards. The last two winners of the County Sports Performer award; England Women’s Cricket Captain Charlotte Edwards and Huntingdon Gymnast and Commonwealth Games star Luke Folwell went on to win the regional award. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have also produced the last two regional winners in the Young Community Volunteer of the Year, Paris-Rose Brixey and Matthew Newton both amassed 100’s of hours of volunteering in more than one sport to be the deserving winners of the award.
