BIG PUSH FOR COUNTY BASKETBALL
LIVING SPORT has appointed Paul Mostowyj, one of the county’s senior players and coaches, as Basketball Development Officer, to get more people playing basketball in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, with funding from England Basketball.
Paul is passionate about basketball and has played and coached for the Nene Valley team for over 15 years. He said ‘Basketball has been a really important part of my life for so long, it’s kept me active, it’s been a creative outlet and being part of a team has meant I’ve made lots of friends over the years. I want others to benefit from playing basketball as much as I have and we know there are people out there who want to play, we just need more venues and coaches and finding them is part of my job.’
To ensure Peterborough and Cambridgeshire has a vibrant basketball community Paul needs to hear from you. If you want to play basketball, coach or volunteer, or maybe even set up a new club please contact Paul on 01487 849927 or basketball@livingsport.co.uk.
Dave O’Hara from the Cambridgeshire Basketball Association said ‘Some clubs have been able to grow over the years but there are many more who have struggled so it’s great now to have someone within the county who can support club development.’
Basketball’s popularity was recently demonstrated by the success of the NBA pre season game which saw the Chicago Bulls taking on the Utah Jazz, at the sold out O2 arena last month.
