1st Price Bailey Womens Century Scored-Jul 10

This weekend, the Price Bailey East Anglia Womens Premier Cricket League, saw it’s first ever Century achieved. The milestone was reached by Natalie Cowan of Godmanchester Town Ladies who’s score of 119 was not able to prevent their defeat by Bishops Stortford Ladies.

Bishops Stortford Ladies batted first and posted an excellent score of 295 in their 40 overs. Natalie Cowan opened the batting for Godmanchester and did not stop scoring runs until the close of play where Godmanchester Town Ladies came up 87 runs short of Bishops Stortford’s total. Cowan, an all-rounder, who keeps wicket for Godmanchester and also bowls when required, found her rhythm early in the innings with two fours off the first over. Whilst the runs did not come quite as quickly in the following overs, Cowan dealt comfortably with a variety of different bowlers and reached her maiden century, including 18 fours, only to be caught out on the boundary going for a six in the 39th over. Bishops Stortford’s top batting achievement of the day went to Rebecca Witherden who scored an impressive 72.

Helen Clarke, Chair of the Price Bailey EAWPCL commented ‘this is a fantastic achievement for Natalie. It is certainly the sort of success story that we were hoping for when the League launched in May. It really does go to show the quality of the players competing in the East Region. I wish everyone else in the League the best of luck in emulating Natalie’s success! Let’s hope for more centuries to report on in the remaining fixtures.’
