Our work

In April 2009, the priority of national sports strategy changed and LIVING SPORT, with significant funding support from Sport England, now delivers against a Core Specification, the focus of which is to support National Governing Bodies of Sport.  Additional Sport England funding enables the delivery of children & young people and coaching and volunteering projects.

LIVING SPORT has an important role in increasing adult participation in sport and had the lead for National Indicator 8 within the Local Area Agreement 2008-2011 in Cambridgeshire, and a supporting role in Peterborough.  A key part to this, which is a particular focus for further development through this Strategic Plan, is the coordination of performance management information and presentation of the collective output to better emphasise the value and impact of sport.  LIVING SPORT also facilitates a Community Sports Development Group which has an important role in improving coordination and collaboration in delivery across the partnership area.

LIVING SPORT has of course played a significant role in the 2012 agenda, administering GOLD, the local coordinating group, and acting as representative at the Nations and Regions East Forums. LIVING SPORT will continue to ensure the partnership area takes full advantage of the opportunities provided by the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

To extend our reach and impact LIVING SPORT has been establishing strong partnerships with those central to the delivery of sport across the county.  These include the School Sports Partnerships and Competition Managers, Local Authority Sports Development Teams and an increasing number of National Governing Bodies of Sport including their local Associations and member Clubs.  LIVING SPORT has also made good progress engaging with a wide range of non-sport agencies such as the Cambridgeshire Children and Young Peoples Services (Youth Service, Children’s Workforce, Safeguarding agendas) and the Voluntary and Community Sector, and we have deepened our engagement with health services, most recently with Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trusts, and with the wider the business sector.

This broad partnership base reflects LIVING SPORT’S ambitions to create more informal opportunities to participate in sport, by offering a broader range of activities and exploring new types of delivery. Wider partnership engagement has proved particularly important to the successful engagement of harder to reach communities. The benefits of this approach are already becoming clear. LIVING SPORT is now responsible for delivering Dancing for Fun and Better Health, a BIG Lottery funded project targeted at encouraging over-50’s to become more active, and Active Workplaces, funded by national and local partners, supporting, enabling, and delivering workplace focussed sport and physical activity events and training.
