Members of Ely and District Table Tennis Club are celebrating having been awarded £9,600 from Sports England to develop sport in Ely – as well as being given a new base at Witchford Village College Sports Hall.
After being confined to a small sports hall in a neighbouring village, the club were desperate to get into a larger, more adequate facility.
Club Chairman Simon Braschi said “The Ely Table Tennis Club have recently been granted £9,600 from Sport England, to aid the expansion of their club and encourage new people into the participation of sport. With this money, the club has been able to relocate to a bigger venue, purchase new equipment and allow professional coaches to develop the skills of beginners and seasoned players alike of all ages.”
An exhibition of table tennis was put on for the public on Monday night (30th October), showcasing the talent in the area.
Club chairman Simon Braschi also said he was delighted to see new faces at the event, and encourages all interested parties to attend an initial free training session on a Monday evening from 7 – 9pm. He also thanked all those who organised and participated.
