UKCC Level 1 is suitable for those with some experience of playing hockey and perhaps with practice in helping in a coaching or teaching environment.  The course length is a minimum of 17 hours contact time and is run over a minimum of three separate occasions. A formal (summative) assessment is included within the course and the candidate will be informed after assessment if they have been awarded the qualification. All candidates are now required to take the EHB online Hockey Safeguarding course prior to the UKCC Level 1 course. This will be made live soon. UKCC Level 1 candidates that have done any of the following workshops within the last three years and can evidence it as part of the assessment process will be accepted:

SportsCoach UK - Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport(or the equivalent from the FA, British Gymnastics or RFU)

The candidate can expect the tutor to introduce:

Basic techniquesPrinciples of playUse of small-sided gamesThe rules of the gameUnderpinning theory knowledgeSkills to create a safe, enjoyable and effective environmentCandidates are advised to gain an Emergency 1st Aid certificate and attend a scUK Good Practice and Child Protection Course or equivalent as soon as possible following the course.
