In every section of society, people need organising and sport is no different. From a grass roots level of one friend calling another to invite them to the park for a kick about, to the International Olympic Committee deciding on the venue of the next Olympic Games. Someone is always behind the activity sorting it out and driving it forward.
There are a number of voluntary positions that are needed to enable a sports club to run effectively. For example, in a committee you’ll need to think about a Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Welfare Officer and then you may need a Social Secretary, Kit Manager, Press Officers and Junior Representatives.
www.do-it.org.uk is a comprehensive database of volunteering opportunities which is updated by the Volunteer Centres. Potential volunteers can view opportunities local to them and apply on-line through the Volunteer Centres.

If you are thinking about one of these roles follow the link (role descriptions) to get a better understanding of what exactly is involved in some of them. You could also talk to committee members in your club and talk about what they do, how much time they have to commit and what skills they think are important.
There are several organisations that can assist you by offering workshops/courses and others that provide guidance on policies and procedures.

Volunteering England www.volunteeringengland.org is an agency that is dedicated to volunteering in the country and covers all aspects of volunteering. This web site offers a range of resources for anyone who works with or manages volunteers as well as those who what to volunteer.
