Sports Awards 2007 - THE RESULTS
It was a glittering event, hosted by LIVING SPORT and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire at Comberton Performance Centre in Cambridge, with special guest Goldie Sayers.
The winners and their categories
Archant Young Community Volunteer
This award was for an individual under the age of 18, who has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity. Winner - David Humphrey from Eaton Socon Cricket Club. David is passionate about cricket and volunteers to assist with a Youth Coaching Scheme for over a hundred 11 to 15-year-olds. For the last three years he has been a volunteer assistant coach and is an English Cricket Board qualified umpire at the tender age of 17.

The Manchetts Sports Personality Award
Someone who has made great progress and achieved outstanding success in their sport, individually, or as part of a team.
Winner - Louis Smith, gymnastics. Louis is British Under 18, All Round Champion and Silver Medallist on pommells and represented his county at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. Louis was pommells champion at the Youth Olympic Games in Australia as well as Silver medallist in the all-round category.
Other finalists: Georgina Gardiner, Peterborough Area Triathlon Club; Goldie Sayers British javelin star.
Advance Performance Unsung Hero
The award for a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport.
Winner - Dr Hilary Dixon. Hilary trains young gymnasts who compete at county & regional level events. She is a member of Cambridgeshire Gymnastics Association and also their Treasurer. She organises county competitions, has studied to become a regional level judge, and been described as one of those rare, fantastic volunteers who do it for the love of the sport.

The Lakeside Lodge Young Sports Personality Award
A sportsperson, under the age of 18, who has made great progress and shows much potential for the future.
Winner - Marissa King, Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics Club. Marissa, aged 16, is the current British Champion on Vault and represented GB in the World Championships in Stuttgart. She is aiming for Olympic selection in Beijing.

The Ridgeons Club of the Year
Recognising a local club for their hard work in developing their club, as well as achieving sporting success in the past 12 months.
Winner - The Cambridge Dive Team. The Cambridge Dive Team is recognised as one of the leading centres of excellence in the country. It has brought more members through its doors and has produced several elite divers. Five young people have been selected to join the British Junior Talent programme - a national scheme to find the next generation of Olympic medallists. Collected by Sharon Bord.

Coach of the Year
A qualified coach, who is committed to providing the highest standard of coaching to athletes and helps other coaches to develop.
Winner - James Etherington, The Cambridge Dive Team. The Cambridge Dive Team has thrived since James joined and now caters for 200 children and 20 adults learning to dive. James has also set up his own Talent Identification Programme, visiting local schools and inviting youngsters to join the club. Five young elite divers he has guided have been selected for the national scheme to find the next generation of Olympians.

Sports Performer with a Disability
Someone who has made a significant contribution, impact or improvement in their development as a disabled sports player/athlete.
Lauren Steadman, Huntingdon Piranhas. Lauren is a 14-year-old swimmer, competing in regional, national and international competitions and is hoping to compete in the paralympics in Beijing. Part of the British Swimming World Class Athlete's development programme, she collected a gold medal in the 50m backstroke in the Danish Open in Esbjerg in 2007.
Other finalists: Verity Boocock, City of Peterborough Gymnastics Club
Runners-up: Andrew Hall, national Blind Tenpin Bowling Squad and James Risdon who represented GB at the Atlantic Paralympics.
All individual winners received a £100 grant towards their development, a trophy and sports kit. Cambridge Dive Team received a £200 grant towards development and a trophy.
The winners in all categories (except Unsung Hero), were automatically entered into nominations for categories at the BBC East Region Sports Awards.
Winners of the Sports Personality and Unsung Hero categories at the regional event were then invited to London to attend the televised National BBC Sports Awards.
