Get more Members at your Club!

LIVING SPORT believes everyone should have the opportunity to take part in sport on a regular basis, and feel the benefits this brings. This principle is called Equality, which means 'a fairness of opportunity to all'.

If you want to get more people at your club, one of the best ways of doing this is to attract people from under-represented groups. By 'under-represented' we mean that there are proportionately less of these people involved in sport, than in the community as a whole.

For example, did you know:

  • Around 20% of the population have a disability or a limiting long-term illness
  • 16% are aged 65 or over
  • 8% are from a minority ethnic group
  • 51% are female
  • 7-10% have a sexuality other than heterosexual

Are these figures represented in your sports club? If not, what could you do to make a difference? Is your club accessible by those with disabilities? Does it market itself to minority ethnic communities? Can it cater for the older population? Is there a welcoming environment for lesbian, gay or bisexual people?

By targeting these minority groups not only will you increase the membership and size of your club, but you will help to raise the number of people that are living active, healthy lifestyles.

If you're struggling for ideas, consider sending someone on the A Club for All course which LIVING SPORT runs, or contact the people below for advice.

These people can help you:

The people listed below all specialise in working with specific groups. They can:

  • Advise you on appropriate language and behaviour
  • Advertise your sports club activities through their networks of people
  • Offer guidance to clubs and organisations putting on activities to attract under-represented groups
  • Point you towards further information

They're all very friendly, so give them a call today, and see how they can help your club!
