Find a volunteer for your club

Every club needs volunteers, and there are. You could:

1. Advertise in your locality – outlining the role. There are job descriptions that you can download from this web site to help you.

2. Contact LIVING SPORT who will put you in contact with a local Volunteer Centre and who can advertise your vacancies on www.do-it.org.uk.

3. Appoint a Club Volunteer Coordinator who can manage your volunteers and recruit new ones to your club – LIVING SPORT is running two sessions of the Club Volunteer Co-ordinator Training programme on the 25 June and 17 September. Download our Livingsport.co.uk course programme for more details.

4. Contact LIVING SPORT to find out more about Step into Sport and taking young volunteers to help your club. Many of these young people who have undergone training to develop the following skills:

FUNdamentals
Disability Sports Awareness
Communication
Ability to organise and plan activities
Improvising: adapting to unexpected circumstances

5. Develop the volunteers you have. The secret behind every successful sports club is a network of motivated people fulfilling key roles. It's important to have role descriptions for your volunteers, so it's clear what is expected of them, and you in return. LIVING SPORT suggest the following roles may be useful for your club.

To monitor the finances of your club and keep you in the black.
To keep your club in administrative order
To keep the club in good order
To make the club a child-safe and child-friendly environment
To concentrate on recruiting and retaining good volunteers
To raise your club's profile in the media and in the community
Keep fixtures in good working

Step into Sport scheme

Bringing young volunteers and sports clubs together

The Step into Sport programme is a programme encourageingyoung people, aged 16 – 19 to volunteer in their local community and local sports clubs.

These young volunteers are trained in a variety of skills:

  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • How to motivate other people
  • Ability to organise and plan activities
  • Improvising: adapting to unexpected circumstances
  • Officiating

If you're a club, a young volunteer can help you with::

  • Coaching
  • Leadership
  • Officiating
  • Administration
  • Event Organisation
  • Publicity
  • Website design
  • Results Co-ordinator

As a club, if you'd like a volunteer to work with you, then you must have the following:

  • Appropriate insurance (such as?)
  • Lead coaches who are qualified and CRB checked
  • Self-disclosure forms in place for all other members
  • Risk assessments in place for each activity
  • Access to a qualified First Aider and First Aid kit
  • Full accident and emergency procedures
  • A Child Protection & Equal Opportunities Policy
