Modern Pentathlon The modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport made up of five events; epee fencing, pistol shooting, 200m freestyle swimming, show jumping and a cross-country run. Points are awarded for each separate event, with the winner being the athlete with the highest score. The modern pentathlon was created by the founder of the Modern Olympic Games Pierre de Coubertin and reflects the ideals surrounding the Olympic movement.
