The Hall of Fame LIVING SPORT believes it is important to identify, encourage and support the potential Olympic winners and improve their chances of coming home with a medal. This page has been designed to put a spotlight on the potential Olympic winners from Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Alex O'Connell - Fencing
Club: Brentwood Fencing Club and Cambridge UniversityAlex O'Connell was Great Britain's youngest World Champion at aged 16, his other successes include;
2005: Won the u17’s title at the World Junior Championships.
2006: Sabre gold at the Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships.
2006: Senior gold at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
2008: Selected to represent Great Britain for the Beijing Olympics.

Louis Smith - Gymnastics Club: Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics Club Louis Smith is looking like one of Great Britain's most promising gymnast. He has enjoyed several accomplishments, including:
2004 & 2006: Junior European champion on the pommel horse.
2006: Gold medal on the pommel horse at the Commonwealth Games in Stuttgart.
2006: Bronze medal Silver at Glasgow Grand Prix.
2007: Gold on pommel horse, Silver in all-round event and bronze on high bar at the Australian Youth Olympic Championships.
2007: Won bronze medal on the pommel horse at the World Championships
in Stuttgart, making him the first British man to win a medal at the
tournament in over a decade.
2007: Silver at Glasgow Grand Prix.
2007: Won the Sporting Achievement award and second place in the BBC East Sports Personality of the Year category.
2007 & 2008: Named Athlete of the year by the British Olympic Association.
2008: Selected for Britain's gymnastics squad for the Beijing Olympics.
Daniel KeatingsClub: Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics Club Daniel Keatings is one of Great Britain's rising stars, he has achieved many successes including:
2007: Silver medal on Pommels at the European Championships in May.
2007: Men’s Senior Overall title at the British Gymnastics Championships in Wigan.
2008: All around junior champion at European Championships, 4 golds in junior (pommel horse, rings, parallel bars, GB squad and bronze in floor), whilst being captain.
2008: Selected for Britain's gymnastics squad for the Beijing Olympics.

Marissa king - Gymnastics
Club: Huntingdon Olympic Gymnastics Club
Marissa King is an extremely talented gymnast. She has achieved many successes:
2007: Debut for Great Britain's senior women's squad.
2007: Gold at Glasgow Grand Prix for vault. 2007: Vault title at the Women's British Gymnastics Finals.
2007: travelled to Macau and Beijing for GB training camp, including
an olympic test event. She won a bronze medal in Beijing.
2008: Silver medal at the Slovenian Grand Prix.
Joanne Ellis - Hockey

Goldie Sayers is an extremely successful athlete, she has been the
British number one at javelin for the past five years and has many
achievements to her name including:
2001: Broke the British junior record and won the national title.
2002: Sixth place at the Commonwealth Games.
2004: The youngest GB female athlete to compete in an individual event at the Athens Olympics.
2007: Captain of the British team.
2007: Broke the senior British record with a throw of 65.05m which ranked her 4th in the world.
2008: Won the European Cup of winter throwing title.
Will Clarke - Triathlon
Club:Cambridge Triathlon Club Will clarke has achieved successes in triathlon, following successes at swimming and running as solo events.
2004: Silver at the International Triathlon Union Duathlon Junior Championships.
2004: Junior bronze at the International Triathlon Union.
2006: Bronze at the Salford International Triathlon Union World Cup.
2006: The European Triathlon Union Triathlon Under 23 European Champion.

2007: Fifth place at the International Triathlon Union World Championships.
Mark Foster – Swimming
Club: University of Bath Mark Foster will be competing at his fifth Olympic Games. Some of his more recent successes include:
2000 & 1999: Bronze at the 50m butterfly at the European Championships.
2000: Seventh at the Barcelona Olympic Games.
2000: Gold in the 50m freestyle and butterfly at the World Short Course Championships (WSCC).
2001: Bronze in the 50m butterfly at the World Championships.
2002: Silver in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m butterfly WSCC.
2003: Silver in the 50m freestyle at the World Championships.
2004: Gold in the 50m freestyle at the WSCC.
2008: Selected to represent Great Britain for the Beijing Olympics.
Jody Cundy - Paralympic Cycling Jody Cundy has already represented his country and won three Olympic gold medals in Swimming, now he has been selected to represent Great Britain in Cycling. Some of his successes include;
2005: Fourth at the National Championships Disability Omnium, breaking a British Record in the flying 200m.
2006: Gold in Kilo at the Newport Grand Prix and broke the British Record.
2006: Gold at the Paralympics World Cup 2006: Gold in Team Sprint at the International Paralympics Committee World Championships.
2007: Gold in Kilo and Team Sprint at the Paralympics World Cup.

Matthew Skelhon - Paralympic ShootingClub: Whittlesey Rifle ClubMatthew has only been participating in the sport for only 3 years, in which he has had some great successes:
2007: Won a gold medal at the RIAC and IBIS Cup, against able-bodied shooters.
2008: Won silver when representing Great Britain at the International Polish Cup.
2008: Won silver and bronze medals at the Turkish Cup in Bodrum.
2008: Selected as one of four shooting athletes to represent Great Britain at the Paralympic Games in Beijing.

Lauren Steadman - Paralympic SwimmingClub: Huntingdon Piranhas Lauren Steadman is an extremely talented swimmer. She has achieved many successes, including:
2006: 8 gold medals at an Eastern Region Disabled Swimming meet. 2007: Part of the British Swimming World Class Athletics Development programme and called up to the GB squad.
2007: 3 golds and set 2 new records at the UK School Games (multi-disability 50m, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke). 2007: 2 silver and 2 bronze at the disability sport championships in sheffield. 2007: Lauren Steadman of Huntingdon Piranhas Swimming Club collected the prize for BBC East Disabled Sports Personality.
2007: Won a gold medal, 4 silvers and 2 bronze medals at the Danish open in Esbjerg for swimmers with a disability.
2008: Selected for GB squad for the paralympics in Beijing (50m, 100m, 400m freestyle events).
Fran Williamson - Paralympic Swimming
Club: Colchester Phoenix
Fran Williamson is an extremely talented swimmer, some of her great achievements include:
2001: Two Bronze medals at the European Championships in Stockholm 2001, 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle relay.
2002: Won four medals at the World Championships in Argentina in 2002. Gold in 50m freestyle relay, silver in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. Bronze in 200m freestyle.
2004: Won four medals at the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004. Silver in 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle relay. Bronze in 100m freestyle.
2006: Won four medals at IPC World Championships in South Africa. Gold in 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle relay, Silver in 50m freestyle and 200m freestyle.
2007: Selected for the British swimming squad for the visa Paralympic World Cup.
2008: Selected for Beijing Olympic Games.
