Mick George Sports Fund Extension

Local sports groups to benefit from extra funding availability

The inaugural year of the Mick George Sports Fund proved immensely successful and has prompted the local construction business to expand the value of support, and operating regions for which the Company will provide assistance, moving forward.

Working in collaboration with Living Sport charity, the Sports Fund was originally set up to back suitable initiatives in dedicated CB and PE postcode areas, to aid health and well-being through the participation of sport and physical activity.

However, keen to extend the offering, Mick George Ltd has struck two further partnerships with Northamptonshire Sport and Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport, which will permit additional applications throughout the majority of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, respectively.

Simon Fairhall, CEO at Living Sport said: ‘’Living Sport are delighted to be partnering with Mick George Ltd again to offer this grant funding opportunity.  It will prove invaluable towards helping people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough be more active, more often.’’

In 2018, the Sports fund donated more than £50,000 to forty-two separate leisure led schemes, across a wide variety of disciplines; including football, rowing, cricket, bowls, canoeing, netball, archery, athletics, to name just a few.

This time around, Mick George Ltd has doubled the available funding, to an impressive £100,000.

Individual grants will be available between £500 and £1,500, for capital community sports projects or developments, open to the general public. These could include, but are not limited too; changing room improvements, clubhouse renovations and training or facility maintenance equipment.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit registrations throughout the year, in the four quarterly application rounds.  Entries will remain open for the current round until June 30th, 2019. For more information, please visit www.mickgeorge.co.uk/mick-george-sports-fund.

Jon Stump, Joint CEO Director of Mick George Ltd commented: ‘’As a business, we’re very proud of our community linkages. We’re constantly seeking affiliation with like minded groups, where we can combine to benefit residents within our operating localities.’’

Stump continued: ‘’We’ve witnessed first-hand how our resources can help these often volunteer led initiatives, and we’re sure that will be replicated in the new areas.’’
