Stoop falls at Flushing Meadows

Georgie Stoop's quest for a second successive Grand Slam appearance came to an end with defeat in the first qualifying round of the US Open.

The 21 year old from Great Chishill, ranked 188, lost to world number 140 Marta Domachowska, of Poland, 6-1, 1-6, 6-7 but will look back on a missed opportunity at Flushing Meadows having served for the match in the decisive third set, but then holding on to several match points before the 8-6 defeat in the third-set tie-break.
