Pat McAleese wants to put Newmarket back on the boxing map after getting the go-ahead to hold a professional show in his home town, the first professional bout in Newmarket for nine years.
The unbeaten light-middleweight will top the bill in an event being staged by his promoters, Left Jab, at Tattersalls in front of an expected 700-strong sellout crowd on November 7 after the venue was given the green light by the British Boxing Board of Control.
He said: “I think I could sell that many just from the number of people who have come up to me about it, but it will be first come, first served when they go on sale.
But McAleese will keep busy in the meantime with a showdown against Welsh puncher Geraint Harvey at London’s York Hall on September 13. The Mountain Ash boxer is rated No 23 in the country with McAleese at 49.
McAleese said he hoped a win over the 29-year-old fighter, who stopped his last opponent, could push him closer to a shot at an area or English title next year.
He said: “It will be a good step up for me and if I win that, I’ll be up near the top 20 in the country.”
