Four swimmers from City of Peterborough Swimming Club (COPS) have been called up to the prestigious England Talent Development squad and they will be joined by the club's head coach Ben Negus.
The club's 'famous four' have received their call-ups as a result of their outstanding performances at the National Swimming Championships.
Thirteen year-old Zara Bailey gained her selection after posting three club records in the five events in which she had qualified at the championships in her age group.
Bailey's 13 year-old clubmate Bethany Freeman also gained her selection after posting club long course records in the 100m and 200m backstroke for her age group.
Fifteen year-old Joanne Longland has been selected for the open water talent development squad after she made her debut at the discipline in this year's regional championships and came away with the gold.
The Wisbech schoolboy Liam Knight, the only COPS boy to gain selection, has seen his performances in the pool reach new heights this year culminating in nine swims at the nationals with six final placings and six club records.
Negus starts his third season in charge of the Peterborough club which has seen unprecedented achievements in the pool during his stewardship.
Negus hails from north Nottinghamshire where the swimming scene there has produced Olympic and world record breakers. Negus retains close links with his former colleagues and has set COPS the target of bringing similar swimming glories to Peterborough.
