George Howard will be heading to Brazil next month to play in the Faldo World Series Final, as one of a select group of players who will make their way to the Itanhanga Golf Club in Rio de Janeiro, having won one of the nine UK Championships, at the Hollinwell club.
The 16-year-old student at Long Road Sixth Form College, was six shots off the pace after day one of the competition at the Nottingham club.
But on the inward nine on day two, four birdies helped him to the clubhouse lead at 146, and with his main rival dropping four shots, Howard claimed the under-16 title by one.
The Willingham golfer will be looking to reproduce his season’s form, which has seen him win the Cambridgeshire under-16 championship.
At the English under-16 Open, a prestigious competition which attracts competitors from across Europe, Howard was 61st. Last weekend, he finished eighth overall, and fourth in his age group, at the Midland Champion of Champions event.
But the next big appointment is a trans-Atlantic flight to Brazil for the world final, which is from October 28 to 30. To read the full story follow this link.
