Young People complete 200 hours volunteering

Two amazing young people have each completed over 200 hours of community volunteering and were presented with their Step into Sport Gold certificates by Neil Andrews from Histon Football Club.

Paris-Rose Brixey, 18, who was at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge when she completed her award, volunteered with Waterbeach Colts, the Cambs Football Association, Fudoshin Karate Club (in Cottenham) and at the Hills Road Table Tennis Club. Josh Grant (18), who attended Cromwell Community College in Chatteris, completed his community hours at Chatteris Town Youth Football Club where he has been assistant coach for three seasons with the Under 11’s.

Josh commented “I have really enjoyed my volunteering and as well as being great fun I have been able to give back to the community some of the coaching skills that I learned as a young player. I believe the experience will enrich my chosen career path as I am off to study Sport and Education at university.” Paris-Rose, who is about to start at Loughborough University “always valued the feeling of knowing that I had helped a younger performer and that my contribution both to training and organisation of events meant that opportunities were available to others. I would encourage other young people to have a go at volunteering as you get so much out of it.”

LIVING SPORT’s Leadership and Volunteering Coordinator, Claire Thorby says “it is a huge commitment for young people to complete this amount of hours whilst they are still at school or college and Step into Sport is a great way to recognise the importance that young volunteers play in our sports clubs and organisations. We are really proud of their contribution as volunteering is vital to the continuation of our County’s sports clubs.”
