Another club record for Joel Grenfell

Peterborough Athletic Club's Joel Grenfell took his tally of club Under 15 records to three when breaking the 200m mark at the East Anglian League final at Bury St Edmunds on Sunday.

Grenfell had already set the club 100m and long jump marks – and the 4x100m along with Jake Berney, Max Everest and Louie Tierney – this year but blasted to yet another mark as he broke the previous mark set by the late Robert Bogle 16 years ago.

It's been an amazing year for Grenfell, particularly in the long jump. Having won the English Under 15 indoor title in the winter he went on to add the English Schools title, take the silver medal in the English outdoor championships.

Grenfell had already moved to the top of the UK rankings as Peterborough Athletic Club's Under 15 boys won at the Eastern Young Athletes League plate final at Cambridge last week.

Grenfell leapt 6.63m, seven centimetres further than his winning jump at the English Schools in Sheffield and two centimetres better than Wolverhampton's Feron Sayers had leaped to top the UK Under 15 rankings.

Next year Grenfell moves up to the Under 17 age group and his sights will be on the clubs records in that age group including Alex Pycock's 200m mark of 22.26 and Ian Lonsdale's 1998 long jump best of 6.87m.
