The Huntingdonshire Health Walks Scheme has recently congratulated its first walker to complete 500 walks.
Irene Willard from St Neots first joined the scheme in January 2003. As well as participating in walks in St Neots, she now likes to venture around the district and participates in walks around Huntingdon, St Ives and Ramsey.
The Huntingdonshire Health Walks Scheme is run by the council’s sports and active lifestyles team, in partnership with NHS Cambridgeshire, and organises over 40 free walks across the district each month. Walks are led by trained volunteers and are open to all ages and abilities. The walks vary in distance and take place in and around local towns using public footpaths and rights of ways.
New walkers are always welcome, so pick up a Health Walks leaflet from your nearest leisure centre, doctor’s surgery, library or information centre. Alternatively, contact the sports and active lifestyles team on 01480 387047 or e-mail activelifestyles@huntsdc.gov.uk and start walking your way to health today.
