Lisa Whybourn produced another stunning performance to book her place in the second round of the Aegon Pro Series $50,000 event in Barnstaple, Devon.
The 18 year old has been in the form of her life in recent weeks and it continued yesterday as she came from behind to bundle highly-rated Polish player Katarzyna Piter out of the tournament with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Whybourn does not yet have a senior ranking on the WTA tour, but she showed just how misleading numbers can be by overcoming an opponent ranked 349th in the world.
She will now feature in the listings having completed three first-round matches at senior events.
Whybourn went into the tournament on the back of winning a British Tour tournament in Wrexham, for which she was seeded second, and encouraging displays in a Challenger tournament in Shrewsbury and at the junior nationals.
Whybourn will now face the winner of the match between Lenka Wienerova (ranked 164) and Maret Ani (191) in the second round.
