Supreme Brown takes world senior gold

Susan Brown reigns at the top of the rowing world after taking gold in the United States at Head of the Charles event.

The 47 year old, a teacher at St Mary’s School in Cambridge, travelled to Boston to take part in the senior masters’ singles (40+) at the biggest head race in the world.

Brown was second last year, with her opponents including the undefeated champion over many years, American Ellen Kennelly. She had been loaned a Van Duesen sculling boat, and was given three outings to adapt to it, before starting second on the day.

She soon caught Kennelly, and was then able to power on, giving herself enough of an advantage over her opponents to take the victory.
