Potter Carly is Champion of Champions

Pool star Carly Smith enjoyed great success in Great Yarmouth last weekend as she secured over £1,000 in prize money.

Peterborough's Smith returned to Hampton after winning the National Champion of Champions title and finishing runner-up in the National Ladies Singles Championship.

Smith gave it her best shot in the National Singles reaching the final before going down 6-4 to Emma Cunningham, collecting £350 for being runner-up. The local potter made up for this in the Champion of Champions competition by defeating Cambridge’s Sue Osborn 6-3 in the final and scooping the £750 prize.

2009 has been a magical year for the former Evening Telegraph Sportswoman of the Year, after winning the European title earlier in the year.

Fellow Peterborough potter John Roe, winner of the national amateur men's singles at the same venue last month, reached the quarter-finals in the men's Champion of Champions event at the weekend.
