The senior swimmers from City of Peterborough Swimming club (COPS) won an array of medals and set records galore at the ASA East Region Winter Championships held in Norwich.
The championships were over two days at the UEA Sportspark and COPS swimmers underlined the club’s ability by achieving fourth place in the medal table. The final result was achieved due to some stunning individual swims and an excellent all-round team performance.
Medal-winning performances came from Charlie Walker (19), Sophie Sweet (16), Liam Knight (15), Gaby Balls (15), Emily Cook (15) and Zara Bailey (13).
Charlie Walker set the standard for COPS' weekend in the 200m freestyle final by setting 3 records, with the Philippines national record the most notable. Walker continued this success by acquiring two more national records for his country, in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.
This has resulted in national squad selection, representing the Philippines at the South East Asia Games in December.
Knight also impressed for COPS by obtaining a top junior finish in the 200m backstroke, while collecting junior gold in the 100m backstroke with another championship record.
COPS are holding an open trials night to find their future record breakers and medal winners on Friday December 4 between 7.10pm and 7.50pm. Prospective swimmers should be able to swim 100m using two or three different swimming strokes. For further information contact the club via e-mail at admin@copsclub.co.uk.
