Swimming star Lauren Steadman returned from the IPC European Championships in Iceland with an individual bronze, a relay gold and a European record.
The 16 year old, from Sawtry, competed with Louise Watkin, Stephanie Millward and Eleanor Simmonds in the 4x100m freestyle relay as they secured gold by smashing the European record by 16 seconds, and only three seconds slower than the world record.
The quartet will be aiming to achieve this record when they swim at the IPC World Short Course Championships in Rio de Janeiro starting on the 29th November.
Steadman set a personal best for a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle, while claiming two fifth and a sixth place in the 50m and 100m freestyle finals, and the 200m individual medley.
Steadman competed at the Disability Sport England Nationals in Sheffield last weekend, where she won 10 medals and set six personal bests last year.
Huntingdon Piranhas’ Steadman is hoping to attract sponsorship in the build-up to the 2012 Paralympics. If anyone is interested they can contact her mum Sharon at a.steadman@virgin.net or by telephone on 07775 612173.
