Ely Sailing Club’s Clare Christan was one of eight Eastern winners at the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Community Awards ceremony held in London last week.
Christan was recognised for her efforts with the Outstanding Contribution Award, as she has held about every office at Ely Sailing Club, and she once held the post of Commodore, Principal of the Sailing School and Chairman of the House Committee all at the same time.
Other Eastern winners at the awards were Norfolk’s Geoffrey Evans and Trevor Lewis, two Essex sailors, John Fosdike from Hertfordshire and Suffolk based Mick Leveritt.
RYA East vice-chairman Fiona Wylie was the final winner with the Lifetime Achievement Award, after her active work across the region, most notably her involvement in the East with RYA Sailability, the leading UK charity for disabled sailing.
