Hockey at The Leys School is developing in leads and bounds, with three male pupils being called up by England and the girls’ under 18 side celebrating county and regional success.
James Warrington, James Albery and Tim Clarke have been selected for the England under 16 side after appearing for Saxon Tigers in the under 16 Futures Cup.
Warrington, Clarke and Albery, along with fellow schoolmates Joshua Harris, Fin Owens, Sally Whyte, Faye Curran and Flo Esplin, have recently played for Bury Tigers, one of the three representative sides for the South and East of England, which led to their inclusion in the Saxon’s team.
Whyte scored the goal that clinched girls’ team’s success in the Under-18 Cambridgeshire Cup.
Leys sailed through the group stages of the competition with victories over Thomas Deacon, Saffron Walden and the King’s School, followed by semi-final and final wins over The Perse and Kimbolton respectively.
The girls’ form continued in the Under-18s Eastern pool section, where they beat Framlingham, Felsted, Haileybury and Stamford High. These wins secured their qualification for the round-robin competition, where the three group winners compete to decide the East’ overall winners.
