Talented local goalkeeper Nick Pope has been called up to the English Colleges FA national squad.
Pope, who is from Wicken near Ely and attends West Suffolk College, was successful through two rounds of trials before final selection was made at the final session held at Lilleshall.
Pope’s first match for the national team is likely to be 11th January against Wales, followed by a tour of Italy early in 2010.
Pope is currently Suffolk’s U18’s No 1 after impressive performances for Bury Town in this season’s FA Youth Cup, which has seen him become the senior squad’s second choice. Pope has had previous high quality experience after a stint in the Ipswich Town Academy, where he was released at the age of 16.
