Cambridge Cats Basketball Club, who are leading the way as the county’s only basketball club to have achieved Clubmark status, are celebrating this month as they have achieved re-accreditation.
This is another feather in the cap of a club that has been running for the last 16 years as a local basketball club and has enjoyed considerable success in developing and establishing the club and its junior programme.
Clinton Wedderburn, the club’s head coach, has surrounded himself with the right people and they have all worked hard to maintain Sport England’s required standards to keep this kite mark. Cats have also been awarded 3* Accreditation by their governing body England Basketball, a prerequisite for Clubmark.
It’s more good news for the county, who currently have 92 Clubmark Clubs in total and another 70 clubs who are working towards Clubmark. These figures mean that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are leading the East region with a growth of 41.54% compared to last year.
LIVING SPORT Operations Manager Lee Dolby said, ‘It is great to see the club being reaccredited and it's a just reward for the hard work and effort that everyone at the club has put in. I hope that this acts as an example to other basketball clubs in the area as we need more clubs to gain Clubmark accreditation, if we are to really drive the sport forward across the county.’
