Boxers Harry Roddy and Alfie Smith helped the Eastern Counties representative side to a narrow 6-5 victory over the Southern Counties select squad in their clash at Aveley last month.
New Astley’s Roddy made a sensational debut by stopping fellow first-timer G Dannard from Chatham’s Brompton ABC in the second round, using his weight advantage and punching accuracy to win.
Smith from All Comers warmed up for his tilt at the Senior ABA Championships by clinching a unanimous decision over M Wicks. He was 5kg above his 63kg fighting weight, but this did not stop him claiming victory for the Eastern Counties.
