The Swimathon is the world’s biggest fundraising swim and will help raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation.
In Cambridgeshire, nine pools will be hosting the Swimathon event. Theses are; Bottisham Sports Centre, George Campbell Leisure Centre, Melbourn Sports Centre, One Leisure St Neots, One Leisure Ramsey, Paradise Swimming Pools, Parkside Pools, Regional Fitness and Swimming Centre and Sawtry Leisure Centre.
The Swimathon allows the local community, local authority and sporting organisations to show support for the county’s pools through participation, and it is a great opportunity for regular training and participation.
The various sessions for the Swimathon 2010 are being held from 16th - 18th April 2010, and participants have the opportunity to take part in the following;
Distance Challenge - enter the 5k, 2.5k or 1.5k as an individual or enter the team 5k with friends.
Corporate Challenge - challenge your rival departments or even rival companies by teaming up with 2-4 of your colleagues for the corporate 5k challenge.
Simplyswim - this allows you to swim any distance at any pool at any time. So if you are unable to attend a swimathon distance challenge session, you can still be part of the world’s biggest swim.
If the participant does not feel they can support by jumping in the pool, volunteers are also needed on the poolside to help count lengths.
So if you, or anyone you know, wishes to register for this year’s Swimathon, it can be done by going onto the Swimathon website at www.swimathon.org where more information can be found, with participants that register now being entitled to 50% off their entry fee.
