Seymour and Falkner looking for World success

City of Ely’s Sarah Seymour and Ellen Falkner are hoping for success in the Potters Holidays World Indoor Championships.

Seymour, WIBC women’s singles champion, is hoping to go one better than last year when she lost in the final of the mixed pairs with Mark Royal. In this season’s Championships, she will link up with club-mate Greg Harlow in the same competition.

Seymour and Harlow, who won the event with Jo Morris three years ago, will meet compatriots Alex Marshall and Carol Ashby in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Despite her passion for mixed pairs, Seymour also has her eyes on the prestigious women’s singles title, as does club-mate Ellen Falkner.

Falkner won the crown in 2005 and 2006 and the Ely bowlers could meet each other in the last four if both are successful in the opening stages.

The former champion comes up against Israel’s Ruthy Gilor in the first round on Saturday, while Seymour has received a bye to the quarter-finals on Tuesday when she will face either compatriot Janice Gower or Mary-Ann Beath of the USA.

Emma Felce will make her England junior debut at the British Isles Women’s International Series in Wales this weekend.

After being a reserve for the national under-25s side last season, the St Neots player received her call-up for the competition in Mountain Ash following a successful recent trial.

Felce will play at No 2 on a rink featuring Zoe Eagles, Lorraine Kuhler and Sian Gordon as they take on the host nation, Scotland and Ireland in the round-robin tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
