Paralympic skier Sean Rose created history with Britain's first gold medal in a World Cup race after winning the downhill event in Sestriere.
St Neots-based Rose finished almost a second ahead of Japan's Akira Kano to give him a boost ahead of the Vancouver Paralympics.
The 38-year-old, who competes in the sit-ski category after breaking his back in a skiing accident in 2000, has enjoyed a successful season so far with three podium finishes in last month's European Cup races in Austria.
Rose will now hope for more success in the second downhill race on Thursday, as well as the Super G races on Friday and Saturday.
