City of Ely Bowls player Greg Harlow is celebrating after becoming world champion at the Potters Holidays World Indoor Singles Championships.
The 41-year-old fifth seed defeated Scottish qualifier Stewart Anderson 9-8, 10-3 to win the World Bowls Tour’s flagship event for the first time.
Harlow held his nerve in the first set to win it by a single point, and then it was a lead-changing second until the eighth end when Harlow scored a triple to clear five shots clear to set up a clear victory.
Harlow celebrated his victory with a trademark cartwheel on his way to collecting a £28,000 winner’s cheque.
Nicky Brett missed out on a place in the final against his City of Ely clubmate after losing 8-2, 9-8 to Anderson in the semi-final, tournament success he hopes will place him back in the World’s top 16 for automatic qualification to all Tour events in 2010. He collected a £6,000 cheque for reaching the semis.
