Happidojo Judo Club and Total Sports Plus Rugby have joined forces to deliver exciting new sports camps for Cambridgeshire youngsters in 2010.
A dynamic combination of sporting activities is planned for every school break throughout the year thanks to teamwork between two of the area’s most successful sports camp providers.
The fun and actively educational camps will be led by Dave Southby, former Commonwealth Judo Gold Medallist and founder of Happidojo, in partnership with Tom Dann, Shelford Rugby Club 1st XV Player/Coach of Total Sports Plus.
There’s something for everyone under the guidance of friendly, first-class coaches who will provide a packed programme of outdoor and indoor sporting activities. The camps will also include the latest initiatives from SAQ Training, a programme of progressive exercise and instruction aimed at developing fundamental motor abilities, balance, co-ordination and body movement control.
Dave Southby explains, ‘Judo and rugby make powerful partners, these sports go hand in hand and it’s important for youngsters to experience as many sporting activities in order to maximise their health, fitness and performance potential. The fundamental SAQ (speed, agility, quickness) skills alone are excellent; this is a new concept sweeping the country and aims to give a foundation for any sport’.
Tom Dann added, ‘I am delighted that Shelford Rugby Club has come together with first team players and Happidojo Judo to provide great sports camps that benefit all the players, the clubs and the community’.
Judo skills are used to develop specific rugby techniques by improving physical contact ability and spatial awareness, including;
- Turning opponent over
- Improving take-down techniques
- Greater agility and mobility
- Understanding mauling tactics
- Superior flexibility and balance
- Boosting self-confidence
- Developing upper body strength
Great fun for complete novices and competitive players, the camps take place at Shelford Rugby Club from 9.15am to 3.30pm and cost £25 per day, per course. The dates are; Feb 16/17, April 15/16, June 1/2, July 26/27, Oct 26/27, Dec 20/21/22.
