Camboccia flourishing in Cambs

When Shaun McCormick issued a rallying cry for a new boccia club in Cambridgeshire he never imagined just how positive the response would be.

A year after making his plea, McCormick has seen the club, called Camboccia, flourish with a healthy number of youngsters wanting to learn the fast-growing paralympic sport and perfect their skills, meeting every Sunday at Impington Village College.

Such has been the success of the club, there are plans to compete in the National Boccia League from next month. Its growth has not gone unnoticed either, with Boccia England recognising it was one of the most promising clubs in the country and awarding it a £500 development grant.

Boccia is similar to bowls and is played on a flat surface from a sitting position. The aim is for a player to get as many of their balls closer to the target ball than their opponent.

Camboccia are also running three taster sessions over the coming months in Cambridge, Ely and St Ives.

For more details about the club contact Shaun McCormick on 01223 223947 or at shaun@camboccia.co.uk, or visit the club website www.camboccia.co.uk.
