Huntingdonshire Athletics Club’s Emma Butcher and James Downing are on their way to the English Schools Cross-Country Championships to be held next month in Manchester.
The duo were running in fields of around 80 in the Anglian Schools Championships at Hinchingbrooke School against athletes from neighboring counties Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Butcher clinched her spot with a fine 8th place finish in the Senior Girls race, while Downing ran another excellent cross country race to place 5th in the Junior Boys race - both securing their places in the national schools competition.
Matt Leadbitter was Hunts AC’s sole representative on the indoor circuit at the Birmingham Games. He put a brilliant display in the Senior Men’s 400m race to claim the bronze behind elite athlete Richard Buck with a PB of 50.75sec, a time elevating him to the second fastest 400m runner in the Eastern Counties.
