This week the current and two-time Women’s World Water Ski Racing Champion Kim Lumley-Manchett and her observer-husband Robert met the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at No. 10 Downing Street in London.
Somersham skier Kim and Robert were accompanied by Kim’s father Tom and Britain’s former Team Captain, Tony Williams. Tony said, ‘we all had a fantastic day spending two hours in Number 10 in the company of the Sports Minister, Gerry Sutcliffe. We had a tour of No. 10, tea and coffee and a five minute meeting with Gordon Brown.’
Tony added, ‘Having been Kim’s Team Captain for many years I felt it appropriate that the Prime Minister should meet and congratulate her on her resounding successes in Ski Racing and being a wonderful ambassador worldwide for Great Britain and the sport. I was delighted to receive a positive reply to my request and the result was the splendid day we experienced.’ Kim’s father Tom said, ‘it was one of the best days of my life.’
Lumley-Manchett, 27, secured her 2nd World Water Ski Racing Championship in July 2009 after she won four out of four rounds at the 16th World Championships in Belgium, following her seventh Catalina win earlier in the month.
Kim entered her first World Championship in Sydney, Australia back in 1997 where she fell and broke her ankle. She was determined to prove that she could bounce back and be the best in the world and she did just that when she won the title of Women’s World Water Ski Racing Champion at Hunstanton, Norfolk in 2005.
