Indoor athletics was the focus this weekend with Christian Roberts and Matt Leadbitter both competing across the country.
Roberts represented Cambridge University in the traditional Varsity Relays against Oxford University at Lea Valley in London.
Roberts was a last minute placement for Cambridge and ran a personal best of 7.40 secs to place 4th in the 60m sprint, before leading off for Cambridge in the 4x200m with his team securing the victory.
Roberts joins illustrious company in this event with the name of Harold Abrahams engraved on the trophy as a previous winner. Abrahams won gold for Britain in the 1924 Olympics and is immortalised in the film Chariots of Fire.
Matt Leadbitter took part in the Midland Counties open in Birmingham and recorded impressive results.
In the 200m, Leadbitter surprised with a fine 2nd place in 23.31 secs, beating his four-year personal best of 23.50 and earning an Eastern Counties top ten place. Later in the day, Leadbitter ran the whole way from the front to easily win his 800m race by over eight seconds.
