Boxer Sadler finds GB camp as ‘eye-opener’

Shane Sadler has had a glimpse of life at the top after training with the Great Britain squad.

The Little Thetford fighter joined his Army teammates in a training camp with the national side at their base in Sheffield last week. Sadler and the military men’s link up with the British squad was part of their build-up to this month’s Combined Services Championships.

Sadler had several sparring sessions with former World Cadet champion Anthony Ogogo and admitted it was a tough challenge. He described the weekend as an ‘eye-opener’ due to the level of training and the superb facilities boasted in Sheffield.

Meanwhile, Ramos Simkus travelled for two hours to do the job in 30 seconds with his knockout win at a show in Lowestoft.

The DC Academy puncher floored Mathias Thorpe from Ipswich’s Kings ABC with a booming backhand left hook to get back to winning ways in the opening round. Thorpe came out quickly, but his approach suited the big-hitting Lithuanian down to the ground.
