Coach House Riding School, the well-known and reputable local riding school at Chippenham, has been awarded Clubmark accreditation that officially recognises its reputation in top-level instruction to its younger members.
This ‘kitemark’ is currently only held by eight riding schools throughout the UK and Coach House Riding School is leading the way for the Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) as the very first ABRS-only approved riding establishment in the East of England to gain this accolade.
Coach House Riding School was set up over 23 years ago by proprietor, Linda Porter-Cohen and is an established fixture on the local scene. Although this award is specifically for young people, the school caters for both adults and also children, from 5 years upwards who wish to learn to ride there.
Linda said, ‘Our wide variety of horses and ponies allows us to offer riding lessons to many different abilities of rider – whether you just want an enjoyable, healthy, outdoor, social activity, you are returning to riding after a break, or if you are interested in a career with horses.
Above all, I would stress that we want all our riders to enjoy their time with us. In fact, on Tuesday, 6th April (during the Easter school holiday) I am organising a day of riding lessons at the reduced rate of £10 per rider for a 30 minute lesson to give adults and children the chance to experience riding and all that it offers whether they are new to the sport, or returners.’
Commenting on the award, Linda said, ‘All of us at the Coach House are delighted to be the first riding school in the East of England to gain the Clubmark accreditation. As an inspector and examiner for ABRS riding schools, it is very satisfying to become the very first ABRS-only approved establishment to get this.
The Clubmark branding is further proof for everyone coming here that we maintain the highest standards both in the standard of instruction and also in the welfare of our customers and horses.’
Linda firmly believes that riding and caring for a horse or pony (a live animal) plays an important role in shaping young lives. She explained, ‘Our main concern is the safety and enjoyment of clients and all our horses and ponies (big and small) are well mannered, people-friendly and well trained.
I would encourage all those that want to take up a healthy, fun, activity, to call and discuss it with me, and I always welcome anyone that would like to come and watch a lesson in progress before making any decision.’
