Reid on the comeback for the 2012 Paralympics

After being in the wilderness from competition judo for 18 years, the road to the 2012 London Paralympics will start at the International Blind Sports Association VI World Judo Championships in Turkey for Lesley Reid.

The Melbourn judoka has been named in the Great Britain squad to take part in the Championships this week (March 23rd - 28th).

Reid, 48, is a coach at Melbourn Judo Club and won the children’s coach of the year at British Judo’s Volunter Awards ceremony last year, having taken up the sport when she was six. She is in the 78kg category, but she has had a long break from competition judo.

As a warm-up for Turkey, she had her first competition in 18 years last week, taking part in the Ipswich open meet, and she returned from Suffolk with a silver medal. Reid’s aim is London 2012.
