Comberton VC join Get Set network

Pupils and teachers at Comberton Village College have been officially accepted as part of London 2012’s Get Set network, in recognition of their commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values.

The Get Set programme provides the forum to share and learn from other schools locally, nationally and internationally ensuring that the values developed among the 31 pupils and staff that visited the 2008 Games in Beijing are embedded, as widely as possible, across Comberton and its partner schools.

Comberton’s admission to the network was a result of a number of ongoing and new projects at the college. The Cultural Olympiad project, the Cambourne Bloco based at Comberton, is providing a fantastic opportunity to develop the Olympic values. The values are constantly reinforced as they move towards 2012.

The International Inspirations, designed to leave a tangible legacy from the London Games, has seen Comberton linked with a school in Maputo, Mozambique. At the heart of the link are the Olympic and Paralympic values

A new whole school reward system will start in September, promoting qualities Comberton wishes to encourage, Active Participation, Volunteering, Leadership and Effort.

As a member of the Get Set Network, Comberton will receive access to exclusive competitions and 2012 Games related opportunities over the coming years.

Sebastian Coe, chairman of LOCOG, who visited Comberton last summer, said, ‘When London won the right to host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, we made a clear promise to use the power of the 2012 Games to inspire young people.

‘I am proud to welcome Comberton in to the Get Set network for their exciting work around the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, courage, determination and equality.’

Get Set have just launched their new look website. The website now has more gadgets and online tools making the site more user friendly, with a video player on the homepage showcasing the video resources available through Get Set.

Get Set are also offering schools and colleges the opportunity to acquire free tickets to the BT Paralympic World Cup in May. To view the new website, visit http://getset.london2012.com.
