Back for its third consecutive year, Inclusive Fitness Week, developed by the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI), aims to raise the awareness of inclusive fitness provision and get more disabled people participating in local physical activity opportunities.
Between Monday 3rd May and Sunday 9th May 2010, free events will be held at facilities throughout the UK providing local communities with the opportunity to try new activities and sports in a safe and inclusive environment.
All participating facilities have achieved the nationally recognised IFI Mark Accreditation which is an industry standard awarded to fitness facilities that are inclusive of both disabled and non-disabled people alike.
At IFI Mark Accredited facilities you can expect to find:
- Helpful, friendly staff with a positive and welcoming attitude
- Fitness staff with specialist additional disability training, providing them with the skills and understanding to ensure that you have a safe and effective workout
- Staff with a flexible approach to your individual needs
- A functional level of access to areas relating to the fitness suite
- Allocated accessible parking bays
- Accessible toilet and changing facilities
- A range of inclusive fitness equipment that allows a full body workout for both disabled and non-disabled people
Amy Smith, IFI Activator and Marketing Manager commented, ‘IFI Mark Accredited facilities have already played an instrumental part in increasing activity by disabled people, attracting on average eight new disabled members per month into the gym. Inclusive Fitness Week further demonstrates their commitment to inclusion and enthusiasm for ensuring that doors are open to the entire community’.
