The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) marked 99 days until the inaugural Youth Olympic Games on Friday 7th May 2010 with celebrations across the city.
The 99-Day Celebration included the unveiling of the venue dressing designs and the workforce uniforms for the Games. And a celebratory concert was held featuring performances from Singapore’s top talents – Taufik Batisah, Hady Mirza and Electrico.
SYOGOC Chairman Ng Ser Miang said, ‘As we move closer to the start of the Games, I can feel the excitement and buzz in the community growing with each passing day. Many National Olympic Committees and International Federations are finalising their team preparations for Singapore 2010, and I am confident that SYOGOC and the IOC are ready to welcome the world to Singapore for this historic event.’
The Games will be held from the 14-26 August and will bring together 3,600 athletes between 14 and 18 years of age from over 200 National Olympic Committees to compete in the 26 sports on the London 2012 Olympic Games programme.
Team GB is looking forward to participating at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore with a team of full of exciting young British talent. The qualification period is ongoing and athletes selected to Team GB will be announced in July.
Singapore 2010 aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
Young athletes will participate in high-level sporting competition and in a Culture and Education Programme (CEP). CEP will raise participants’ awareness of the Olympic values and topics such as healthy lifestyles and the fight against doping.
The International Olympic Committee marked the milestone date by releasing ‘99 seconds’, video interviews with Youth Olympic Games Ambassadors Michael Phelps and Yelena Isinbayeva.
