49 from Hunts AC take part at Cambs Open Meet

In one of the best turnouts ever by Huntingdonshire AC, 49 of its athletes took part in the first of three Cambridgeshire Open Development Meets at One Leisure St Ives, taking 16 victories in the process.

The Meet also incorporated the County 3,000m Championships which gave James Downing the opportunity to win the Under 15 Boys title by 70 seconds. Downing’s achievement was even more remarkable as he has missed much training this past winter due to injury.

Faye McLellan, competing in the Under 15 Girls race, took the county silver medal and reduced her own club record by over 40 seconds, while Eleanor Smith also beat her best by half a minute to claim the bronze medal in the Under 17 Women’s category.

Further club records were set when Matthew Wright won the Under 11’s 150m race and knocked 2.61 secs from the existing record, followed by the second U11’s race where Elizabeth White just dipped under the old record by 0.03 secs.

Hunts AC runners continued to cross the line first with 100m wins coming from Luke Hayes, Lewis Hammond, and Laurel Phelan, a 150m win by Matthew Wright, and 200m victories by Thomas Hawkins, Laurel Phelan, Katie Scholey and Amelia Cantwell.

Elena Ensor and Callum Jagger recorded first places in sprint hurdles first places, Alex Cleland and Timothy Cobden claimed 800m wins, with Emily George placing first in the Under 13 Girls Long Jump and Amelia Cantwell winning the same event in the Under 11 Girls category.
