Four winners at Schools Champs for Hunts AC

Four athletes from Huntingdonshire AC stood atop the winner’s rostrum by the end of the Cambridgeshire County Schools Championships held in Cambridge.

Leading the way, 17 year old Jonathan Edwards won the Senior Boys discus, shot putt and hammer throw with all three distances exceeding the required standard to compete in the English Schools Championships next month, while breaking his existing club record in the hammer with a throw over 50m.

In the Inter Boys section, Jordan Gillbanks continued his winning season with two firsts in the 400m and the 400m hurdles. Gillbanks has previously achieved the English Schools qualifying standard for the 400m and is just 0.4 secs from the 400m hurdles time.

Lily Seach claimed gold medals in both the Inter Girls 200m and 300m, while Ailish Park unleashed her furthest ever throw to win the Inter Girls javelin title. Next stop for qualifying athletes is the Anglian Schools Championships at Boston this Saturday.

Sean Barker led the way for Huntingdonshire AC in the Ramsey 10k race, while Christina Marshall also had a great race, finishing second in the Women’s age 15/16 category. In the 3k run, 15 year old Eleanor Smith was the first girl to cross the finishing line, with her younger sister Polly finishing as third girl.

Club star Matt Leadbitter completed Hunts AC’s weekend with 5th place in the Senior Men’s 400m in a time of 49.58 secs at the South of England Senior Championships at Crystal Palace.
