The Cambridgeshire Golf Partnership is launching the County Academy Programme aimed at identifying and encouraging talented junior golfers, beginning in July 2010.
This programme is aimed at boys and girls aged 8 to 15, who have talent and interest but who are not part of the present County squad coaching programme. Funds have been provided to support this initiative through the England Golf Partnership.
The first stage of this programme will be the staging of Open Talent Days to identify young golfers, boys and girls, who show talent and enthusiasm for the game. CGP is to run five Talent Days in the week beginning 3rd July 2010.
Following these days, it is planned to invite selected young people to move on to a County wide coaching programme based at County Training Academies to provide the necessary coaching support to enable the young golfers to attain their full potential and to have the opportunity to progress to the county junior squads.
The Open Talent Days will be held during July as follows:
Each day will consist of a two hour session of assessment run by county coaches. The sessions will be split into four components, long game, short game, putting and sports skills, and then there will be skills challenges plus a short discussion with one of the coaches.
To register for the Open Talent Days please complete a registration form which can be obtained from your Club Secretary / Pro. You can also register by email to john.harvey6@googlemail.com.
